Italy January 2015

Day 1

Hi all, a quick message from Italy to say all are well and enjoying the experience of meeting new friends and different cultures. We had a visit of the school today and looked at some of the historical buildings surrounding the school.

We are taking part in an enterprise challenge tomorrow and the students will be in mixed teams. This will be quite an experience for the students and certainly put all of our communication skills to the test.

Day 2

Hi all, Italy is still going well. Students have had a very busy day today and lots of activities. We started with a tour of the second part of the school in Italy. In this part of the school they specialise in work skills. We have seen the vinery, grape press and also the brewing room where the school produces its own wine for sale! We looked at the chemistry labs where students study the chemical elements of plants, test olive oil for purity and are researching new plants.

In the afternoon about 40 students took part in an enterprise challenge. The majority of the students are mainstream, able-bodied students but I am very proud to say Catcote students won the challenge (fairly) by creating the best and most fit for purpose product. Well Done!

Day 3

The students have had a brilliant day today. We started at 8:30am and visited a pottery museum. We all had the chance to make our own masterpieces.

Following this we held our “World Market Day” at the town square in the city centre. The students were fantastic! Our products and display were by far the best and we sold out of all products apart from 1 card making €70.00.  All other stalls sold very little.

Our YE students at school need to be very proud as their products which we sold today really stood out for their great quality.

Day 4

Day 4 was a really early start with the students getting up at 6:00a.m having breakfast at 6:30am and on the road to Rome for 7:30am. The journey itself was a good experience for the students as we used a coach to the outskirts of Rome, a train to the centre and then the underground to the get to the tourist spots. We started with a visit to the Colosseum which was truly amazing. We went inside and took lots of photos. We had a tour of the main attractions including the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza de España. We had our lunch sitting outside an Italian restaurant and of course we finished our time in Rome with an Italian Ice cream. Its a day the students will remember for a long, long time.
