The Hullaboo in Darlington

Creative Arts KS5 learners had an inspiring visit to The Hullabaloo in Darlington, a theatre dedicated to creating engaging performances for young audiences. The trip offered a unique opportunity to explore both the public play spaces and the usually unseen backstage areas. Our learners were given a guided tour, delving into the technical aspects of theatre production. They witnessed first-hand the intricate light rigging systems and various pieces of equipment that contribute to the magic of live performance. Senior Producers Chloe and Ali, highlighted the different creative roles available within the theatre industry, ranging from productions, stage management and lighting design to sound engineering and set construction.

Our learners were particularly engaged by the hands-on nature of the play spaces within Hullabaloo, allowing them to understand how performance spaces can be designed to be interactive and encourage creativity in children from an early age, through a sensory experience. The visit provided valuable insights into the diverse career paths open to them within the creative arts and helped to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.
