Dear Parents/Carers

At Catcote Academy, we are committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students. As part of this commitment, we want to update you on our approach to managing allergies.

We have students in our school with severe allergies to (e.g. Nuts, Sesame) which can cause a serious life- threatening reaction (anaphylaxis) simply by being touched or inhaled.

To support these children, we endeavour to eliminate nuts and sesame from our school, and ask that you become “allergy aware”.

Check Packed Lunches:

We ask that you avoid packing food items containing (nuts, sesame) in your child’s packed lunch.

No Food Sharing:

Remind your children not to share food with other students.

Check Ingredients:

Please be mindful of snacks containing allergens. (a list of the 14 main allergens is attached to this letter).

Our Commitment:

Staff are trained in recognising the signs of an allergic reaction.

A group of staff are trained on the use of adrenaline auto-injectors.

Catering staff are allergen trained.

Sanitising dispensers are at both entrances of the dining hall, helping reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

We aim to be inclusive, ensuring children with allergies are not singled out.  Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep Catcote Academy a safer place.

If you have any questions, please contact the catering coordinator, Jill Nichol.

Kind Regards,

Lisa Greig
