We were honoured to host a visit at Catcote Academy by Sir John Holman, a Professor at York University. Sir John was commissioned by The Gatsby Foundation in 2013 to research and develop a framework of 8 benchmarks that define “what good careers guidance” looks like in schools and colleges. The Government’s Careers strategy is built around these benchmarks. At Catcote Academy and sixth form we are committed to providing a high quality and structured programme of careers provision for all of our students and are working towards achieving all of these benchmarks by 2020.
Throughout the visit, Sir John had the opportunity to have a tour of our vocational areas at our Learning and Skills Centre and also enjoyed a visit to our retail outlet Catcote Metro. He was interested in finding out how the benchmarks are being met in a special needs setting. He met and chatted to our students about their aspirations for their future and was very impressed with them all.
